A illustrated children's book scene of a family — dad with a child on his shoulders, mom, and a young daughter — walking along a sunlit zoo path beside a tall giraffe, with colorful parrots flying overhead and elephants splashing in a pond nearby

A Big Day at the Zoo — A Bedtime Story for Kids

William Walter

Today was the most exciting day ever.

We saw the lions yawning in the sun, the giraffes stretching their long, long necks to reach the tallest leaves, and the penguins waddling in a wiggly line. We laughed so hard at the silly monkeys swinging from branch to branch!

We ate our sandwiches by the elephant habitat and watched the big gray giants splash water with their trunks. "They're taking a bath!" I  giggled.

We walked and walked and walked some more — past the zebras, past the flamingos standing on one leg, past the sleepy koalas curled up in their trees.

"Even the animals get tired," you said quietly, watching a little bear cub curl up for a nap.

"That's right," my parents smiled. "After a big adventure, everyone needs to rest."

Now the lions are sleeping. The giraffes are still. The penguins have tucked their heads under their wings.

And it's time for you to rest too, little explorer.

Close your eyes and dream of all the wonderful things you saw today. Tomorrow, a brand new adventure is waiting.

The End. Sweet dreams. 🦁🌿🐘
