When Winston Churchill said in 1945 that "America at this moment stands at the summit of the world," he was predicting the booming decade of the 1950s. It was a grand time filled with progress, cultural change, and upward mobility for many Americans. A Mid-Century Modern Girlhood is a nostalgic look at growing up in a small town at the center of many of these changes, a town that would eventually morph into one of the major cities of Silicon Valley. Though nostalgic about the 1950s, this narrative also attests to the many arbitrary attitudes of that decade.
