A key text of Cubism from the movement's foremost theorist, in unique dialogue with the Bauhaus

French artist and theorist Albert Gleizes (1881-1953) wrote his influential essay on Cubism in 1912 in the aftermath of the Salon d'Automne exhibitions. In the new century, artists continued to subvert the already rapidly changing conventions of representational painting with a particular focus on form. Gleizes, aided by fellow artist Jean Metzinger, composed a treatise on the relatively new artistic movement in the hopes of convincing their audiences that Cubism was an unsubsidized pursuit with genuine intentions. Though Gleizes was never officially a member of the school, Bauhaus greats László Moholy-Nagy and Walter Gropius promoted his text as a companion piece to their other Bauhaus publications to emphasize the school's international context.
As part of the publisher's ongoing Bauhausbücher series, Lars Müller has released a facsimile edition of Gleizes' text translated into English with the original design and typography.
