Matthew M. Bartlett, almost fifty-three, has just moved from Leeds, Massachusetts to the devil-haunted streets of Arkham, and he's anxious to fit in with his new friends. When he's asked to join a secret club, he leaps at the opportunity. But when the cultists start talking about shoggoths, night-gaunts, and participating in their shadowy, fire-lit rituals, Matthew starts to wonder if he's normal. There are some things about being evil that are tough to talk about, even with his friends. Luckily for Matthew, he's got someone else to confide in . . . someone who always waits dreaming.
Okay, that's not the plot, and this is not a novel. It's a collection of short stories, light satires and semi-pastiches, written by someone who happened upon Lovecraft a little later in life, and found a lot of inspiration in those tales. Contents include Machine Will Start When You Are Start, The Terrible Old Friend, The Rats on LePaul, The Malls of Ulthar, The Flute Players, and a wicked array of capsule biographies entitled My Miskatonic: A Who's Who of Arkham.
