When a nasty storm passes through Mossingford Gate, Scoot wakes up to find two of his children missing. With no other course of action, their father, a simple wood mouse named Scoot, must race across the forest to find them.

Despite the mess the storm left behind, he has no choice but to race through the forest to find them...not an easy task for a simple mouse. During his search, he learns that not only did the storm wreak havoc upon the forest he calls home, but that other creatures used the storm to hide their own devious plans...which included kidnapping Scoot's children and several other small creatures.

As Scoot gets closer to his missing children, tucked away in a forbidden part of Mossingford Gate, he finds that the formal boundaries and relationships among all creatures within their world could be on the brink of destruction. Joined by an absent-minded squirrel, Scoot uncovers unknown mysteries and magic at every turn...and dark truths that will change every square inch of Mossingford Gate forever.
