It's 1974. Deputy Barlow Adams is on patrol in Quayle County, Texas, late at night. He initiates a traffic stop on a speeding truck. It screeches to a halt, and both occupants bail out, flourishing firearms. A gunfight ensues. One is killed and the other is wounded.
