Come Back, Garbage Truck was inspired by the author's children, Britton and Brooks. She wanted to combine her daughter's love for people and her son's love for the spectacular garbage truck. Her children would stand and watch the garbage trucks pull up to the house every week. Many family outings would include a quick detour to chase after beloved garbage and recycling trucks they would see driving by.
