Does a planet in a sign have the same meaning in every horoscope? Yes and no. Although everyone with a specific planet in a specific sign shares common characteristics, each displays subtle differences depending upon what degree the planet occupies within that sign. These differences explain why, for example, one person with Mercury in Capricorn is practical and another is more creative or family-oriented, or has a strong desire to be in the spotlight. Both the three decanates (the ten-degree divisions of each sign) and the twelve duads (the two and a half-degree divisions of each sign) reveal sign characteristics specific to the individual, each of which is defined by the degree of the planet in the sign.
