JAMES S. OLSON is professor of history at Sam Houston State University. He is the author or editor of many publications. Among his most recent books are Historical Dictionary of European Imperialism (Greenwood Press, 1991) and Historical Dictionary of the Spanish Empire (Greenwood, 1991).
