Electric People is the tale of Black music as it travelled from the Deep South and emerged in the seemingly sleepy towns of the Midwest. Told in a poetic format, the innate electricity of Black folks in showcased in their ability to constantly and consistently re-create themselves after persecution and displacement. Though it has happened countless times, the relocation to the Midwest is where the music of Black folks really shined--and birthed modern music.
