Dunphy, the son of a diplomat, and Grimmett, who comes from a broken home, develop an unlikely friendship at a top private school. Dunphy and Grimmett are set up by absent & na ve parents in a flat above a brothel. Their adventures take them from poaching trout to gambling dens and a brush with the law. Author Biography

Michael Elcock was born in Forres, Scotland, and grew up in Edinburgh and West Africa. He emigrated to Canada when he was twenty-one and worked in pulp mills, as a tree faller, on west coast fishing boats, and as a ski instructor-earning along the way a B.A. and M. Ed degree at the University of Victoria. Since then he has travelled widely, and worked and lived in Canada, the US, Spain and Scotland. He has published many articles in periodicals, newspapers and magazines in Canada and the UK, two works of non-fiction-'A Perfectly Beautiful Place' and 'Writing on Stone'-and a novel, 'The Gate'.
