Feathers is inspired by the oral tradition of the South American Folktale, 'How Birds Got Their Feathers.' The oral version describes the original birds of the Brasilian Rainforest being colorless until one day a crafty snake rambled about the forest floor eating all the tasty colorful flowers, which angered the birds. The snake was so ashamed of himself he went and hide until he was able to shed himself of the beautiful colors his skin gained from eating the flowers. The birds found pieces of the snakes shed skin on the forest floor and consumed it forever changing their feathers to the brilliant colors we see today. We hope by visually re-telling this story children will forever be inspired and the oral tradition will continue.
