by Kathleen L. Asay (Author)

Burned-out journalist, Liz Cane, has seen too many sob stories in her career to have much sympathy for the tenants of a run-down boarding house in Sacramento that is about to be closed because the owner of the house has died, literally at Liz's feet. But when she's introduced to the mysterious older woman who lives upstairs, Liz is hooked. The others all think the woman can somehow save the house from closing. Liz has her doubts, but then the woman is attacked and Liz finds herself in a race to discover the woman's story before it's too late for them all.
