Fifty years in the future, an electronic fog known as the polar shroud covers the Arctic ice cap to curb climate change. The shroud has been geoengineered by maverick scientist Charlton Shalom, but now Shalom has disappeared off the grid, and the designer climate has begun running afoul of model projections.

The warming trend has been a boon to the upper Midwest, and formidable interests there aren't keen on seeing it subverted. The mission to reclaim Shalom's allegiance or neutralize him in the interest of restoring the polar shroud requires Oobops to hammer a cantankerous crew into a capable force, overcome his own tyrannical bureaucracy and accept the bizarre challenge cast into his path by the grand slam scientist he's pursuing.
