by Julia Ann Morgan (Author)

This eye-witness account of the War Between the States was written by the wife of Irby Morgan of Nashville, Tennessee, cousin to the famous Confederate general, John Hunt Morgan. Mrs. Morgan worked as a nurse in her home in the early part of the war, but when the Yankee army overwhelmed the Confederate forces in middle Tennessee and occupied the area around her home, she and her family were forced to flee, stopping for a time in Chattanooga, Tennessee, then Marietta, Georgia, and finally Augusta, Georgia, where they lived until the war ended. Her memoir records her experiences tending to the sick and wounded, and it contains important information about many of the battles fought in those areas.
