by Ray Chandler (Author)

What is the truth about Nancy Hart, Georgia's legendary "War Woman" of the American Revolution? What is the connection between a Georgia defrocked Methodist minister and an award for bravery for members of the U.S. Marshals Service? Why was "the meanest man in Georgia" like a character out of Faulkner? How did a convicted murderer from Georgia end up playing a vital role in World War II's famous Great Escape? And how did a man born a slave in Georgia become the chief U.S. diplomat to Liberia? All these sidelines of history and more are explored, and more, in this collection of tales of Georgia and Georgians drawn from history.

Author Biography

Ray Chandler has been a journalist for nearly three decades, but his lifelong avocation has been history. His writings on history over the years have included nearly 150 magazine and newspaper feature articles on historical topics as well as newspaper journalism with the McClatchey, Scripps and Gannett syndicates. Born and raised in Georgia, it is the history of his own state that he explores with the greatest zeal. His first book, published in 2015, was The Last Days of the Confederacy in Northeast Georgia, about the key historical figures from that area who played crucial roles in the Civil War's beginning and its end.
