Gobble came as a result of a sample lesson when Mary was teaching 6th and 7th grade Language Arts. She modeled this lesson for her students. The assignment was to write a story from the turkey's perspective. It was the week before Thanksgiving. The story has evolved over the years to be very personal and mean so much to the author.
