Heroes of Hawaiʻi, written in English by Kimo Armitage and illustrated brilliantly in gouache-style by artist Solomon Nui Enos, uses many Hawaiian language sources to provide a balanced perspective of historic events. Many of the heroes such as Mōʻīkeha, Māʻilikūkahi, Kūkaniloko and others helped shape Hawaiʻi before Western contact.
