He received Bachelor of Architecture (1960) and Master of Architecture (1972) degrees from McGill University in Montreal. He has written for the \u003ci\u003eAtlantic\u003c\/i\u003e, \u003ci\u003eNew Yorker\u003c\/i\u003e, \u003ci\u003eNew York Review of Books\u003c\/i\u003e, and the \u003ci\u003eNew York Times\u003c\/i\u003e, and has been architecture critic for \u003ci\u003eSaturday Night\u003c\/i\u003e, \u003ci\u003eWigwag\u003c\/i\u003e, and \u003ci\u003eSlate\u003c\/i\u003e.
