After returning home, he began his career as a journalist in Oakland. Enticed to join the \u003ci\u003eLos Angeles Times\u003c\/i\u003e in 1971, he became a featured columnist for the paper in 1984. For the next 23 years, his columns appeared regularly, earning him many awards, including three shared Pulitzer Prizes and a National Headline Award for the best column in the United States. \u003cb\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cb\u003eSara S. \"Sue\" Hodson\u003c\/b\u003e is the retired curator of literary manuscripts for The Huntington Library. A fellow of the Society of American Archivists, she writes and lectures widely on archival and literary topics.
