In the context of digital disruption, the type of leadership required must be clearly defined, together with the level of competence of leadership, to drive disruption in an uncertain world. Leaders come with different baggage, different experiences, different DNAs, and with different levels of credibility, but also, with different readiness and preparedness to drive the new world of business and to steer their organisations to bigger heights without risking the extinction of the enterprises they have helped to build. It is perhaps useful to look at what factors create high-performing organisations in the digital era, and to identify the makeup of their DNA and how they work to preserve their purposefulness and to sustain their momentum. The late Vince Lombardi, a world famous basketball coach said, 'If winning is not important, why bother to keep the score?' So, at the end of the day, high-performing organisations are there to achieve, to accomplish, to impact, to generate the level of outcomes that can satisfy the requirements of their various stakeholders and also to demonstrate to themselves that they have what it takes to continue the path of excellence, and continue to disrupt and lead from the front. Winning is always important and keeping the score in a sense is even more important.
