When a hunter is found dead in the Atchafalaya Basin, Hawk Theriot thinks it is murder.

He calls on his friend, Niki Dupre, to help him solve the mystery. The local sheriff blames the death on wild wolves, coyotes or other creatures of the swamp. When Niki visits Sheriff LeBeau in his home town of Lebeauville, all hell breaks loose.

One after another, more bodies are found in the basin, and it is up to Niki and Hawk to find the connection. But can they keep the fangs of death at bay long enough to discover the link between the deaths, and bring the killer to justice?
