The goal of any serious gamer is no different than that of an athlete; both strive to better themselves at what they do at all times. Maintaining a gaming journal and keeping records of high scores and achievements motivates a gamer to do better next time. This is very similar to how an athlete might record race times with the goal of bettering his or her time. A gaming journal is a motivational tool.
