Schulz was born in 1922 in Minneapolis, the only child of a housewife and a barber. His interest in comics was encouraged by his father, who loved the funny pages. After army duty, Schulz lettered comic pages for \u003ci\u003eTimeless Topix\u003c\/i\u003e, and sold seventeen cartoons to \u003ci\u003eThe Saturday Evening Post\u003c\/i\u003e from 1948 to 1950 and a feature, \u003ci\u003e Li'l Folks\u003c\/i\u003e, to the \u003ci\u003eSt. Paul Pioneer Press\u003c\/i\u003e. \u003ci\u003ePeanuts\u003c\/i\u003e debuted on October 2, 1950, and ran without interruption for the next fifty years.
