A large state that is forested in over half of its land area, Pennsylvania is an excellent place to observe and learn about wildlife. The hardwood forests that dominate the central part of the Keystone State are home to state bird Ruffed Grouse and state mammal White-tailed Deer. Scarlet Tanagers and Great Crested Flycatchers breed among the maples, beeches, and oaks in spring and summer. Upland in the Appalachian Mountains are Elk and Black Bears. The Lake Erie shoreline in the northwest is an important staging area for shorebirds, while Hawk Mountain is a premier site to witness raptor migration. Sifting though the thousands of animals that inhabit Pennsylvania can be a daunting task, so it helps to have a portable reference on hand to cut through the clutter and focus on a smaller number of representative species. You can do this with Pennsylvania Wildlife, which features beautiful illustrations of 140 common and familiar mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fishes, and butterflies. Laminated for durability, this lightweight, 12-panel folding pocket guide is the ideal companion for educators, learners, naturalists, birders, and wildlife enthusiasts who wish to forge deeper and more meaningful connections with the land through its animal life. Made in the USA.
