As an adult, Mayse joined the \u003ci\u003eVancouver Daily Province\u003c\/i\u003e and, later, the \u003ci\u003eVancouver Sun\u003c\/i\u003e. He served two years as Fiction Editor at \u003ci\u003eMaclean's\u003c\/i\u003e, before resigning to focus on his own short stories; more than three-dozen appeared in the \u003ci\u003eSaturday Evening Post\u003c\/i\u003e alone.
