They remain relevant for all people of God.\u003cp\u003e (Warning: If you have a very strong preference for the traditional masculine imagery for God, you will not like this meditation rendering.)\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e Designed by a former parish priest who has prayed the Psalter for over thirty years, these choices were made in this meditation rendering: \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e 1\u003c\/strong\u003e. For the name \u003cem\u003eYHVH, \u003c\/em\u003eor \u003cem\u003eYahweh, \u003c\/em\u003ethe Hebrew word \u003cstrong\u003e\u003cem\u003eAdonai \u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e(ah-duh-nigh') meaning \u003cem\u003eMy Lord, \u003c\/em\u003eis used. In several places the words \u003cem\u003eEl \u003c\/em\u003eor \u003cem\u003eElyon \u003c\/em\u003eor \u003cem\u003eElohim \u003c\/em\u003eare retrieved, as is \u003cem\u003eSabaoth \u003c\/em\u003einstead of \u003cem\u003eMighty \u003c\/em\u003eor \u003cem\u003eHosts.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e 2\u003c\/strong\u003e. Following the Christian understanding of one God in the three persons of the Trinity, masculine pronouns for God are avoided.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e 3\u003c\/strong\u003e. Except in the traditional Lord's Prayer and doxology, rather than the Greek \u003cstrong\u003e\u003cem\u003eFather \u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e(\u003cem\u003epater\u003c\/em\u003e) the more intimate Aramaic \u003cstrong\u003e\u003cem\u003eAbba \u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003eis used (think Dad, Daddy, Papa) as in Mark 14:36. Among my family and friends, no one addresses their Daddy as Father. This means that on any given Sunday there is a relationship between the Gospel reading and the Psalm.
