His work incorporates drawing, painting, photography, collage, found objects, digital art, and sculpture. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003eAfter a trip to New York in 1986, during which he failed to find work as a comics artist, McKean met writer Neil Gaiman and the pair collaborated on a short graphic novel of disturbing childhood memories, \u003ci\u003eViolent Cases\u003c\/i\u003e, published in 1987. This was followed in 1988 by a \u003ci\u003eBlack Orchid\u003c\/i\u003e miniseries (again with Gaiman) and \u003ci\u003eHellblazer\u003c\/i\u003e covers for DC Comics.
