This is a study of a body of oral narrative which circulates in the form of songs during the celebration of Apo festival, a traditional convention which every person in society, irrespective of his or her class, ethnic group, or race is given eleven days of liberty to lampoon, in the form of defamatory songs and proverbs, the faults and malpractice of any other persons, including those in authority, especially the chiefs.
