His longest single-authored book was \u003ci\u003ePassion for Justice \u003c\/i\u003e--a widely read interpretation and comparison of Walter Rauschenbusch, Reinhold Niebuhr, and John Augustine Ryan. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eBeckley served as editor, for five years, of the \u003ci\u003eJournal of the Society of Christin Ethics\u003c\/i\u003e (formerly known as the \u003ci\u003eAnnual of the Society of Christian Ethics\u003c\/i\u003e). He was shortly thereafter elected to the Society's board of directors, then became vice president and president of the Society of Christian Ethics in 2000 and 2001. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn addition, Beckley founded the Shepherd Poverty Studies Program at Washington and Lee, which he directed for 16 years.
