And the thing was, that usually happened to a boy's feet. Nothing strange about that. What was strange was what the lost shoe did and how it got back with its mate.

Ten-year-old Rosie sat waiting. Her "runaway bag" was in her lap. Two meat-filled biscuits were in her apron pocket. Four strips of dried meat were in the carrying bag.
