Seattle Slew was the first horse to win the Triple Crown while undefeated. In retirement, he shone even brighter, with many of his offspring becoming champions on the racetrack.

Dan Mearns was managing editor of The Blood-Horse magazine, editor of The Florida Horse, and managing editor of the Thoroughbred Record. A founding member of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Media, he won six Eclipse Awards and eight American Horse Publication Awards. He died in 2022.
