Ned Ferris has discovered that his father has been murdered in a small, remote village in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Ned and his friends Kyra and Wolfgang encounter a peculiar cast of characters that seem to be harboring strange secrets surrounding a mysterious creature. The adventure culminates at the "Loneliest Place in the World", an abandoned lighthouse in the middle of Lake Superior.
