Early in my teaching career an experienced teacher told me that if you could "save" just one student for every year you taught, you would have done your job. I found that to be a profound statement. As I think back on my forty years, I honestly feel that I had a positive impact on at least one student per year. I guess that you could say "mission accomplished."
