This book contains a collection of the speeches presented by President Joseph Jenkins Roberts. Roberts was the first African American born President in the world. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia in 1809 and moved to Liberia in 1829. Roberts was elected as the first president of Liberia and was inaugurated in January 1848. With his inauguration, Roberts became the first president ever on the African continent. He died in 1876.
