Author Biography

Francis is a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe and lives on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in southwestern South Dakota. He is a graduate of Holy Rosary Mission Indian School. Francis has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa. Francis has a Master's of Theological Studies from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. Francis is an Adjunct Professor of Religion at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, Illinois. He is a Associate Professor of Religion and Indian Studies at Oglala Lakota College in Kyle, South Dakota. Francis teaches at American Horse Elementary School in Allen, South Dakota and is the Coordinator of the Lakota Studies Program. He is an intermittent lecturer at numerous communities and schools, including Winona State University in Wisconsin and St. Joseph, Missouri. Francis has been involved in cultural bridge-building with groups from Switzerland for the past 15 years and with tribal tour operators as a presentor and translator in cultural immersion activities. Francis has become known within the reservation as a historian and researchist since completing the Genealogy of Crazy Horse.
