by Susan Rich Brooke (Author), Jenny Palmer (Illustrator)

The bears are excited to swim, climb, and run...all except Ursa, the littlest one. The lake looks so wide! And the tree looks so tall! As Ursa watches her siblings try new things, she learns it's OK to set her own pace in this adorably illustrated tale about facing fears by taking one step at a time. Listening to yourself and doing things when you feel ready are important growing-up skills. Parents and children will cheer for the little bear who is brave enough to follow her instincts instead of the crowd.

Author Biography

Susan Rich Brooke started writing stories at age six, but like the bear in this book, she took her sweet time when it came to trying things like swimming (age ten) and bike riding (age eleven)! She lives in Evanston, Illinois, and her other books include The Sheep Who Wouldn't Sleep, The Owl Who Couldn't Growl, and The Ants Who Couldn't Dance.

Jenny Palmer grew up in a small town just outside of Nottingham, England. She studied illustration and design at the nearby University of Lincoln before moving to the south coast to work in publishing. A versatile illustrator and animator who loves crafting detailed natural environments that animal characters can wander through, she is fueled mainly by tea and cute dog videos.
