Appointed to the Academy of American Arts and Letters in 1964, Ellison taught at several institutions, including Bard College, the University of Chicago, and New York University, where he was Albert Schweitzer Professor of Humanities. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cb\u003eJohn F. Callahan\u003c\/b\u003e is the Odell Professor of Humanities at Lewis \u0026amp; Clark College.
