His undergraduate degree is from SUNY Brockport where he was a two-year All American soccer player, and his graduate degrees are from Ohio University. A former Senior Fulbright Lecturer in American literature in Germany, he has won fellowships and awards from the Guggenheim Foundation, the NEA, and the American Academy \u0026amp; Institute of Arts \u0026amp; Letters. He is the author of some twenty-five books of poetry, memoir, criticism, and poetics. Shoah Train: Poems, was a finalist for the National Book Award.
