He is the author of several narrative history books, including \u003ci\u003eA Brief History of Indonesia\u003c\/i\u003e and the award-winning \u003ci\u003eRaffles and the British Invasion of Java\u003c\/i\u003e, as well as the critically acclaimed \u003ci\u003eThe Travel Writing Tribe\u003c\/i\u003e. He's also an academic, with a research specialism in contemporary travel literature. He divides his time between Cornwall and the west of Ireland.
