During the London '\u003cem\u003eFeast of the Five Kings\u003c\/em\u003e' in 1363 AD, Commandaria, as it came to be called, starred as the '\u003cem\u003eking of the wines and the wine of the kings'\u003c\/em\u003e; and in 1372 AD, the Curia of Pope Gregory XI of Avignon evidently ordered this divine \u003cem\u003evinum maroali\u003c\/em\u003e for his personal use. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eOver time, foreign travellers and visitors joined in praise of the fine quality of Cypriot wines. Today, Commandaria is an EU \u003cem\u003eprotected designation of origin\u003c\/em\u003e, justifiably claiming to be Europe's first wine denomination.
