At 20 he moved to New York City to further pursue his acting career, which led to such Off-Broadway appearances as playing the title role in the Mabou Mines production of Greg Mehrten's \u003ci\u003ePretty Boy;\u003c\/i\u003e originating the character\/contestant \"Miss Deep South\" in \u003ci\u003ePageant;\u003c\/i\u003e and succeeding Charles Busch in \u003ci\u003eVampire Lesbians of Sodom\u003c\/i\u003e. Television appearances have included \u003ci\u003eLaw \u0026amp; Order; In the Life; Day One;\u003c\/i\u003e and dozens of talk shows, including \u003ci\u003eJoan Rivers\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eDonahue\u003c\/i\u003e. In film, David has taken roles in \u003ci\u003eLongtime Companion; Naked in New York; It's Pat!;\u003c\/i\u003e and Jonathan Demme's \u003ci\u003ePhiladelphia\u003c\/i\u003e. In 1993 David won a Village Voice OBIE Award for his performance in \u003ci\u003eThe Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me\u003c\/i\u003e.
