This is a collection of short autobiographical pieces covering various periods of the author's life. Some pertain to her childhood in the Netherlands and others take the reader into her adult life in the United States. The mood of these pieces varies from somewhat dark and sad to adventurous, interesting, funny, ironic and even humorous at times, especially when it comes to misadventures and cultural differences between life in the U.S. and in Europe. The pieces are arranged topically but each piece can stand on its own and because of their shortness, they are a quick and entertaining read and allow the reader insight into the author's distinct personality.
