Alemu Beeftu grew up in a pagan home in a remote farming community in Ethiopia. At a young age, he heard Psalm 15 being read by a missionary. He was curious, determined, and had an immediate desire to serve "the God of the Psalms." His perseverance led him to leave home, learn to read and write, and study the Scriptures. In 1978, the severe persecution of Christians in Ethiopa forced him to flee to the United States, where he earned a PhD from Michigan State University.
