by Shinyoung Chung (Author)

Starting as a New York correspondent for a Korean art magazine, Shinyoung Chung has been contributing for art magazines since 2001, on the up-to-date exhibitions taking place in New York, Seoul and Tokyo. In this volume, her contributions to Art Asia Pacific and Artforum during the years 2003 to 2015 have been collected together, along with three essays for artists' catalogues. Her reviews and essays are first hand witnesses to the panorama of artistic endeavors in the beginning of this century with the focus on Korean and Japanese artists. Shinyoung Chung is the chief curator at the Seoul National University Museum of Modern Art. Besides curating, she writes art reviews for Artforum from Seoul and Tokyo, and lectures on modern and contemporary art at the SNU. She holds a Master's degree from Columbia University in Critical Studies in Modern Art and a Ph.D from the SNU with her dissertation "The Influence of Subculture on the Japanese Contemporary Art".
